This week, Mariel turned a very weedy and grassy w This week, Mariel turned a very weedy and grassy walkway into a beautiful wide path! Swipe to see the transformation ➡️➡️

We use the no-dig path method of layering cardboard and woodchip, which @reurefsondye was taught by @eveshillveg

This method mulches the existing weeds and blocks the sunlight out which prevents any weed seeds in the soil from germinating.

First, we use a Spanish hoe to knock back any big clumps of grass and tall weeds. Then we layer cardboard and we water it to make it malleable. We then top it with woodchip kindly given to us by a local tree surgeon. We weigh it down before woodchipping as our site is windy and exposed

We are hugely grateful to @gladwellslondon for giving us lots of premium flatpacked cardboard with no tape or labels to remove! This saves us hours and hours of labour. Thank you to @shellyshellypreston and the gang

If you’re in South East London be sure to check out this incredible deli! They also sent us away with some Herby Egg Mayo beigels which were divine

🌞🙏🏻
The vegetable garden is giving us so much joy toda The vegetable garden is giving us so much joy today!

Food Grower @reurefsondye and their Apprentice Mariel have spent the last few months prepping beds, making paths, sowing seeds, transplanting, dividing, hardening off, potting on, weeding, mulching and more - and we are now reaping their hard work!

* courgettes are on their way - a lovely yellow globe variety
* potato flowers - did you know potato flowers smell amazing? They have a very floral scent
* callalloo is coming on very well
* Agrodulce broad beans are coming thick and fast
* we managed to germinate West Indian Lemongrass from seed and are now planting it in the polytunnel and are hopeful for a crop this year
* we are also using the last of our hedgerow elderflower to make cordial using @nicolaalamb ‘s brilliant recipe

DID YOU KNOW? Our vegetable garden is a highly productive no-dig garden and we farm organically. We grow food to feed staff and Fellows, we use it in our guesthouse and we donate to our local food bank, which we will be doing much more of this year as we have doubled the size of our plot.

Thank you so much to Rabbi Wittenberg from @ecosyn Thank you so much to Rabbi Wittenberg from @ecosynagogueuk for this testimonial. We know our work is absolutely essential to the Jewish youth of today and it is heartwarming to see the hundreds of people who have come out to say this!

UPDATE: Good morning friends, supporters, program UPDATE:

Good morning friends, supporters, programme alumni, Sadehniks, guests, neighbours and community members,

We currently are in constructive negotiation with our landlords the Jewish Youth Fund. The #SaveSadeh campaign is being suspended while we continue our discussions.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us in our campaign so far, texting and ringing us, writing incredible letters, testimonials and emails to the JYF, to community leaders and rabbis, to local councillors and MPs, to the press. We are so grateful for this huge outpouring of love, strength and energy.

NEW ARTICLE: Today we are featured in the @guardian - check the link in our story to read! Thank you @mikesegalov

SWIPE > to see how you can continue to support Sadeh

REST 😴🌞🥕From tonight until Monday night, REST 😴🌞🥕From tonight until Monday night, we have a beautiful opportunity to celebrate Shabbat followed by the harvest festival Shavuot. As you have seen, the Sadeh team and all the wonderful Sadeh extended family, community and supporters have worked hard this week and poured out their love for Sadeh through hundreds of posts on social media, emails, calls and letters.

We are so grateful for all of your support, which has been consolidated with coverage from the JC, Jewish News and Guardian, and a glowing supportive statement from Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mervis!

Over the next few days we will practice the other side of this work, a great gift from our Jewish tradition: rest. We are currently in a Shmitah year where the land itself gets to rest. On Shabbat and Shavuot we will take a break from the campaign to be on the land, smelling the herbs we grow, singing together and taking joy in the beautiful nature that is all around us as we are commanded to do. This rest allows us to be more present with the point of doing all this work! To be with the people around us, in awe and wonder in the beauty of the world and be with our divine selves. We will be back and invigorated on Tuesday!

With endless gratitude for all of your support,

Shabbat Shalom and Good Yom Tov

Another stunning testimonial from a visitor, Shira Another stunning testimonial from a visitor, Shira age 13, who stayed at the guesthouse last summer.

"I loved being at Sadeh; from the moment I walked in through the large front door and was greeted by the friendly and welcoming visitors, staff and volunteers, to having bonfires late at night while singing traditional Jewish songs or going on walks with my friends where we explored the fabulous fields. Sadeh was a place where everyone could be themselves, meet new people and just do nothing, or swim in the on-site swimming pool, get shown round the amazing vegetable patches, and have Shabbat with the other families. I live somewhere where I don’t have the chance to meet other Jewish teenagers, but at Sadeh there were so many people my age I could talk to, a place where I felt I belonged. If Sadeh closes, I’m worried there won’t be a place with so much variety and activities, where nature and religion are linked, and everyone has a place and can do whatever they want. "

Thank you so much to the Chief Rabbi for this quot Thank you so much to the Chief Rabbi for this quote. We are so excited that you feel Sadeh is essential to the community.
“I know Sadeh Farm to be an exceptional facility, creating impactful educational experiences for all, especially young people, helping them to understand the importance of sustainability & care for our environment. This would be a real loss to our community and I sincerely hope that a favourable solution will be found.” Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis

HELLO we have just two weeks left to #SaveSadeh P HELLO we have just two weeks left to #SaveSadeh

Please read and SHARE this open letter from our local Councillor Rachel Waterton. Sadeh has spent the last 5 years building Jewish community and building local community - which Rachel details here! From cooking for the food bank during COVID to litter picking in the lanes to inviting locals to celebrate Jewish festivals with us.

This season we are growing more vegetables than ever so we can wash, prep, package and give it to those who need it. This work is a mitzvah and it is absolutely crucial during the cost of living crisis where fuel and food prices are through the roof. It is once again those with the least who are being hit the hardest.

Still want to do MORE to help save our site? This week we are asking that you write a letter about what Sadeh means to YOU 🌞🥕

Please send your letter to:
- The Jewish Youth fund who are selling off our site on the open market (info@jyf.org.uk)
- us (via jake@sadehfarm.co.uk)
- your community leaders
- your Rabbi
- the Jewish press

Our site is steeped in almost a century of Jewish history and tradition. Losing it would be an astronomical loss to the thousands who have enjoyed Skeet, to the whole Sadeh community and to our local Orpington, Sevenoaks and Bromley friends, neighbours and supporters
