Community culture: Bringing the community together through food

The universal quality of getting together over food should not be underestimated. We break bread, or pickles, for celebrations across cultures. We can often put aside our differences if we are busy with mouths full or asking someone to pass the salt. We connect by eating together, making food together, cleaning up from meal times together. We form strong memories around food and bonds of friendship which can sometimes transcend the strongest political disagreements. At Sadeh we believe fermenting and friendships goes hand in hand. We hang out over the pickle bar with the volunteers or Sadeh guests and talk about the big things like food justice and oppression within and without the food systems and the small things like what we all like to watch on TV and cat memes.
